BRIAN JAMES

I was born in Birmingham and studied Graphic Design at Birmingham College of Art, after which I went into advertising as an art director for seven years before becoming a freelance Illustrator in 1977.

I worked mainly for London and European ad agencies, working on many national and international campaigns.
 
In recent years I have done more fine art work, particularly for fine art publishers in the UK, Europe and the US. This has lead me back to one of my first loves and that is cars, a subject I drew from the first time I could hold a pencil.
 
Reflections and the play of light on surfaces has always fascinated me and cars are ideal for expressing this. As well as cars I have always liked the Art Deco period and I try to bring some of the flavour of this period into my paintings of pre war cars and motoring scenes.
